Richard W. Smith, M.D.

Dr. Smith is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. A native of Tiverton, Rhode Island, Dr. Smith graduated from Providence College. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester.

Prior to joining the staff at Coastal Orthopaedics, Dr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy during Operation Desert Storm as an orthopedist at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy. He later became the Team Physician to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Groton, CT.

Dr. Smith provides sports medicine coverage to area high schools in addition to coaching youth sports including soccer, basketball and baseball. He has a special interest in athletes whose sport requires throwing.

Dr. Smith sees patients in Fall River, MA and Tiverton, RI. He has privileges at Fall River’s Charlton Memorial Hospital, Saint Anne’s Hospital and the Same Day Surgiclinic.  He is available for consultations. New patients are welcome.
